The Health Promotion Centre (HPC), Ministry of Health, recently held an appreciation ceremony recognising UTB students for producing Healthy Eating Public Service Announcement (PSA) videos as part of a collaborative initiative between the Ministry of Health and Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB).
The ceremony, held at HPC Studio 2, highlighted the use of creative digital media to promote healthy eating practices and support national health promotion efforts. The Director of the Centre for Research on Agrifood Science and Technology (CrAFT), UTB, was among those present, reflecting UTB’s commitment to interdisciplinary collaboration and community engagement.
The initiative involved students from the Motion Graphic Design module under the Creative Computing Programme, School of Computing and Informatics, who developed PSA videos as part of their coursework. HPC provided technical input and evaluated the accuracy, relevance, and effectiveness of the health messages to ensure alignment with the Ministry of Health’s nutrition policies.
Selected videos will be broadcast on Radio Televisyen Brunei (RTB), shared via official ministry social media platforms, and used in schools, health outreach programmes, and healthcare facilities nationwide. The collaboration provided students with meaningful project-based learning experience while supporting innovative strategies for non-communicable disease (NCD) prevention and public health promotion in Brunei Darussalam.

Workshop on Aquaculture and Technology
10th March 2025
In collaboration with Fatih Aquaculture and with the support of the Department of Fisheries under the Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism (MPRT) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), CrAFT organised a workshop on Aquaculture & Technology. The workshop aimed to highlight the potential of aquaculture in Brunei’s food security and economic diversification while addressing the challenges faced by the industry.
More than 40 participants, including aspiring aquaculture entrepreneurs, representatives from government and non-government agencies, researchers, and students from higher education institutions, attended the event. Among them were representatives from the Brunei Economic Development Board (BEDB) and Brunei Innovation Lab (BIL), reflecting the growing interest in leveraging innovation and technology for aquaculture development.

Food Safety Awareness Talk: Ensuring a Safer Tomorrow

In collaboration with Makan Ceria Sdn Bhd, CrAFT and School of Applied Sciences and Mathematics co-organised a Food Safety Awareness talk entitled “Ensuring a Safer Tomorrow” for both UTB students and Makan Ceria Sendirian Berhad employees. The talk emphasised the importance of ensuring consumer well-being through robust food safety practices.

Two-Day Workshop on Solar-Powered Farm (Cohort 2)
1st - 2nd November 2024
A two-day workshop brought together a diverse group of farmers, agri-preneurs, governmental agencies and academics to explore the practical applications of solar energy in farming practices. The aim of this workshop is to provide participants with technical knowledge to make informed decision whether to use solar technology on their own farms and to work efficiently with solar energy researchers. This initiative is part of CrAFT Sustainable Development Goals initiative aimed at developing affordable and scalable solar technologies tailored to small and medium-sized farms.

CrAFT’s research team was honored with the Smart Nation Award in the Agriculture Category for their project, AlQuatic AquaFeeder. The Smart Nation Award is a special category within the Brunei ICT Awards (BICTA), established to honour innovative digital initiatives that exemplify the theme of “Smart Nation through Digital Transformation.” This award recognises projects that demonstrate significant potential in enhancing the quality of life, improving public service delivery, and contributing to Brunei Darussalam’s economic development through the strategic use of digital technologies.
Developed in collaboration with AlQuatic Enterprise, the award-winning team included Associate Professor Dr. Lim Tiong Hoo and Dr. Dk. Nurun Najeebah Az-Zahra binti Pg DSP Hj Mohammad Tashim. The team was also supported by former researcher and research assistant, Muhammad Wafiq bin Haji Zariful.

Through these partnerships, CrAFT contributes to knowledge generation, policy development, and the advancement of sustainable and digitally-enabled food systems in Brunei and the region.

Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB) hosted a two-day Coffee & Nutrition Lab Workshop at the School of Applied Science and Mathematics (SASM) building. The workshop was conducted by Aurahealth with the support of SASM and the Centre for Research on Agrifood Science and Technology (CrAFT) with the aim of promoting greater awareness of healthier consumption choices. Through experiential learning and practical demonstrations, participants connected science and nutrition to their everyday food decisions, making the learning experience both interactive and relevant.
Throughout the two-day workshop, AuraHealth delivered a nutrition talk followed by an interactive session. Participants then had the opportunity to prepare their own beverages after receiving a live coffee-making demonstration by a professional barista from LambakLeft Café. They learned to differentiate between healthier and less healthy versions of coffee, gaining a better understanding of ingredients, sugar content, and overall nutritional value.





19th February 2025
In line with our corporate social responsibility commitment, two CrAFT members, Dr Asiah Muhamad and Dr Sheikh Mohammed Sulthan visited Arja Farm in Labi, Belait. They provided a practical demonstration and guidance on setting up solar panels to help the farm adopt ethical farming practices and reduce its environmental impact.
We believe that empowering local farmers with technology is key to building a more resilient and sustainable food system for Brunei.

Chrononutrition is a time-related dietary approach that builds a relationship between meal timing, circadian rhythms, and health. Research has demonstrated that nutrient ingestion can impact our “internal clock” suggesting that the time of our meals may impact our health caused by disrupted circadian rhythms.
Co-organised by CrAFT and School of Applied Sciences and Mathematics, Associate Professor Dr Satvinder Kaur from the Faculty of Applied Sciences of University College Sedaya International (UCSI), Malaysia was invited to deliver a special lecture at Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB). The topic of the lecture ‘Emerging Research - Unlocking your Body's Internal Clock - How chrononutrition can improve your health’ highlighted the aspects of chrononutrition behaviours on breakfast skipping, night eating, and eating window as well as their roles in improving human health.
The lecture was attended by BSc Food Science and Technology students and ended with a Q&A session.

A dialogue session was held at Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB) between Food Science Technology (FST) Programme Area with F&B Darussalam Enterprise (DARe) Elevate Programme participants. The session started with a welcoming remark by Yang Mulia Professor Dr Beston Faek Nore, Director of Centre of Research for Food Science and Technology (CRAFT).
