Qualification and/or skills requirement: 

  • Minimum qualification of Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or closely related fields.

  • The appointee should have proficient experience in one of the following fields: (1) 3D modeling, animation, and rendering with Blender, or (2) game development and programming with Unity3D.

Job Descriptions:   

RA should carry out the works pertaining to the project as assigned by the Principal Investigator(s) /Co-Investigator(s), and they may include but not limited to the following:  

  • Manage and regularly update the progress of the project;  
  • Assist in the researching the Audit content for the project;  
  • Assist in preparing Audit presentation of the project;  
  • Assist in deploying and retraction of the solution to and off the site;  
  • Other duties relevant to the project or activities of the research centre when required; 

Other Expectations:  

  • Research Assistant (RA) should report to the Principal Investigator(s) of the project.  
  • RA should follow work schedule as prepared by the Principal Investigator(s).  
  • The RA is required to work 7 ½ hours per day, following regular Government office hours 

 (Monday – Thursday, Saturday 7.45am – 12.15pm; 1.30 – 4.30pm) or as agreed within the  

Principal Investigator(s).  

  • Public holidays will not be used as working days.  
  • The RA will work for a maximum of 15 days per month.  
  • The RA is required to keep a daily log book and attendance is to be verified by Principal  

Investigator(s) for purpose of calculations of allowance.  

Qualification

Vacancy: Research Assistant (1 Position)

 

Center for Research on AgriFood Science and Technology (CrAFT) Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB) 

 

We are looking for an enthusiastic and highly committed Research Assistant (RA) to join the research project – AIquatic Aquafeeder. This project is funded by UNDP and led by Principal Investigator (PI) Dr Lim Tiong Hoo. 

 

Employment Period

Roles and Responsibilities

 

 

The study aims to: 

  • Develop and implement AI models for detecting prawns and feed in aquaculture environments. 
  • Design, train, and validate machine learning algorithms based on real-time data from cameras, sensors, and other sources. 
  • Collaborate with aquaculture experts to understand feeding patterns and optimize the feeding system. 
  • Integrate AI models with hardware, including solar-powered automatic feeders. 

 

Research Assistant will be responsible for building the prawn model and analysing data for the system. Finally, the RA will assist in writing of the report and articles to be submitted for conferences/journals. 

 

Job Descriptions 

  • Act as associate investigator/project leader on research project. 
  • Assess, interpret and evaluate outcomes of research. 
  • Resolve problems of meeting research objectives and deadlines. 
  • Assist with administrative tasks related to the project. 

 

 

Person Specifications

Essential

 

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical and Electronic, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, or a related field. 
  • Proven experience in developing and deploying AI models. 
  • Experience with machine learning techniques such as computer vision, deep learning, and data modeling. 
  • Able to balance the pressures of research, administrative demands and competing deadlines. 

 

Technical Skills

 

  • Strong proficiency in programming languages such as Python, TensorFlow, PyTorch, or similar AI frameworks. 
  • Experience with computer vision and image recognition technologies. 
  • Hands-on experience with hardware integration (e.g., sensors, cameras, IoT devices). 

Skills:

  •  Demonstrate an interest and knowledge in research. 
  • Be proactive, enthusiastic and willing to learn and grow.
