His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al- Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa'adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, the Chancellor of Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB) consented to officiate the 13th UTB Convocation, held at the Plenary Hall, International Convention Centre (ICC), Berakas.

His Royal Highness Prince (Dr.) Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah ibni His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister's Office, the Pro-Chancellor of UTB was also at the Ceremony.

The arrival of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam and His Royal Highness the Crown Prince at the ICC was greeted by the Minister of Education and Chair of the UTB Council, Yang Berhormat Datin Seri Setia Dr Hajah Romaizah binti Haji Md Salleh; the Vice-Chancellor of UTB, Yang Mulia Datin Paduka Professor Dr Dayang Hajah Zohrah binti Hj Sulaiman; and the Registrar & Secretary of UTB, Yang Mulia Awang Lim Chui Hua.

The 13th UTB Convocation ceremony commenced with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah led by Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Seri Maharaja Dato Paduka Seri Setia Dr Ustaz Haji Awang Abdul Aziz bin Juned, the State Mufti.

The Procession of the Chancellor into the Plenary Hall then followed.

This was followed by the recitation of the Verses 30-33 of Surah Al-Baqarah in the Holy Quran by Yang Mulia Awang Mohammad Naqib Ahwazie bin Mohammad Ali, a graduate from the Bachelor of Engineering (Hons) in Mechanical Engineering. Meanwhile, Yang Mulia Awang Abdul Khaliq bin Saifullizan, a graduate from the Master of Science (by Coursework) in Cyber Security read the lessons from the verses.

The ceremony proceeded with the Vice-Chancellor of UTB delivering the Sembah Alu-aluan.

His Majesty The Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam and Chancellor of UTB then consented to deliver the Titah in conjunction with 13th UTB Convocation and a Titah officiating the launch of UTB Mushaf.

The ceremony continued with the unveiling the covering of the Mushaf by the Bentara (mace-bearer) followed by the call of ‘Allahu Akhbar’ for three times.

This was followed by His Majesty conferring the Doctor of Philosophy, Master's Degree and Bachelor's Degree to recipients listed in the Convocation Book. This was immediately followed by the call of 'Allahu Akbar, Wa Llillah il Ham' by the graduates and all present.

His Majesty then consented to present certificates to 568 graduates which include Doctor of Philosophy to thirteen (13) graduates, Master’s Degree to 150 graduates and Bachelor's Degree to 405 graduates.

To date, UTB has produced over 5,141 BDTVEC HND; 295 Higher National Diploma Level Five; 3,769 undergraduates, 776 Master’s degree and 45 Doctor of Philosophy graduates. The graduates are from academic programmes offered by the Faculty of Engineering, UTB School of Business, School  of  Computing  and  Informatics,  School  of  Applied  Sciences  & Mathematics, School of Design, and Centre for Communication, Teaching and Learning (CCTL).

This year’s convocation also marks the graduation of the first cohort of the Master in Cyber Security under the ASEAN Shield Cyber Security Scholarship, the first cohort of the Master of Architecture both Research and Coursework, and the first cohort of PhD graduates in Communications.
