Sustainable Campus

UTB's sustainable campus initiatives are focused on creating an environmentally friendly, resource-efficient, and socially responsible environment. UTB is working with the government to support the implementation of Brunei Darussalam National Council on Climate Change Green Protocol in its effort to reduce the carbon footprint across all public sector premises through a range of green initiatives—such as energy conservation, waste reduction, water efficiency, and sustainable transportation. As part of its commitment to renewable energy, UTB has installed a 100kW On-grid PV system on campus, contributing to its energy efficiency goals by harnessing solar power. UTB’s infrastructures have been developed in phases and comprised of older and newer buildings, with future infrastructure expansion in the coming years.

To support the University's sustainability goals and to encourage staff and students to use electric vehicles, UTB has recently installed electric vehicle (EV) charging points. This installation can contribute to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals by encouraging staff and students to use renewable energy to charge their vehicles, and by promoting sustainable transportation practices.

Among its green initiatives, UTB has implemented a solar-powered traffic monitoring system designed to gather real-time data on traffic patterns, energy consumption, and emissions. This system serves as a valuable tool for setting and measuring targets aimed at reducing the environmental impact of transportation in Brunei.

As part of its efforts to enhance student and staff safety and comfort, UTB has provided pedestrian walkways. There are a number of open and covered walkways that connect the buildings, allowing pedestrians to walk comfortably in any weather conditions.
