Job descriptions:  

The Research Assistant (Graduate) is expected to carry out the works pertaining to the project as assigned by the Principal Investigator or Co-Investigators, which include the following:  

  • Conduct research related to the research topic 
  • Design microwave filter and conduct electromagnetic simulations 
  • Fabricate and characteristic microwave filter performance 
  • Disseminate research finding through publication and reports 

 

Other Expectations: Research Assistant (Graduate)  

  • should report to the PI of the project,  
  • should follow the agreed work schedule and if required it may be updated with the consent of the PI,  
  • is required to work 7 ½ hours per day, following regular Government office hours (Monday – Thursday, Saturday 7.45am – 12.15pm; 1.30 – 4.30pm) OR as agreed with the,  
  • will work for a maximum of 15 days per month.  
  • is required to keep a daily log book and attendance is to be verified by the PI for purpose of calculations of allowance/payment.

Qualification and/or skills requirement:  

  • The following qualifications will be needed:  
  • At least a second-class honours Bachelor degree, or equivalent preferably in Electrical & Electronic Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering or any other closely related fields, recognised by the National Accreditation Council of Brunei Darussalam.  
  • At least a credit or equivalent in English Language GCE O-level or an IELTS score of 6.0 or a TOEFL minimum overall score of 550 or its equivalent. The English Language requirements may be waived where qualifying studies in Higher Education were in the medium of English Language.  
  • Good work ethic, effective time management, and able to work independently with minimal supervision.  
  • Multi-task and work cooperatively with others.  
  • Knowledge in communication engineering with knowledge of RF/Microwave Engineering.   
  • Skills and experience in computer aided design simulation tools or electronic design automation software.  
  • Good communication skills, in both oral and written English.  
  • Good report writing.

The Sand Retention Innovation Lab at Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB) is seeking a highly motivated and qualified individual to join a temporary position as Simulation Research Assistant to provide technical support to a research project to develop a laboratory facility to provide screen retention tests and an associated numerical simulation capability.  

 

The successful candidates must be familiar with a broad range of technical skills in engineering environments and be capable of working to deadlines as a member of a small multinational team. They will be expected to assist in the analysis of data and the development of numerical simulation models.

Job Description and Responsibilities 

 

  • To provide engineering and geological support for the development of coupled simulation models for the transport of sand in fluids and entrapment of sand in screens and other sand control technologies

Roles and Responsibilities 

The study aims to: 

  • design and construct of an aquaculture autofeeder pond to support and provide partially/fully automated pond. 
  • apply Artificial Intelligence (AI) based on the prawn size captured on camera and feeding information using Feed Conversion Ratio; and analyse and act upon using various actions to reduce the feed waste and cost of operation of the farm.  

 

The candidate should have biological knowledge on prawn, its nutrition and feeding requirement. Postdoctoral scientist is expected to develop a FCR Biomass model and perform procedures/techniques to evaluate the optimum requirement of feeding conditions and its link to water quality. 

Job Descriptions 

  • Develop the prawn Biomass Model and Biomass Feed Ratio (BFC) model to be implemented into the Aquafeeder. 
  • Assist the PI to implement research project proposals and other projects. 
  • Source ingredients; prepare prawn diets; set-up and maintain aquaculture research facility; perform indoor and outdoor aquaculture nutrition experiments. 
  • Care for and feed prawn. This includes monitoring of prawn health, monitoring of water quality parameters, and biochemical analyses (e.g. enzyme assays and chemical inventory; prepare solutions and reagents for use in the laboratory according to established protocols.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, highly committed, and motivated graduate engineer to join the research project “Experimental Study on Strength Gaining Characteristics of Concrete using Portland Composite Cement (PCC)”. This project, funded by the Heidelberg Materials Butra Sdn. Bhd. is a collaboration with the Universiti Teknologi Brunei to study the characteristics of Brunei’s own Portland Composite Cement (PCC). PCC is a more sustainable alternative and known to produce less carbon emission than Ordinary Portland Cement (OPC) that is more commonly used in Brunei Darussalam.

Qualification and/or skills requirement: 

  • Minimum qualification of a bachelor’s degree in either Chemical Engineering or Civil Engineering or any other closely related fields. 
  • The appointee must have a valid driving license, Class 3 in Brunei. 
  • The appointee must have prior working experience in cement/concrete/ construction industry in Brunei Darussalam.   
  • The appointee must have basic knowledge of handling materials such as cement, concrete, clinker, gypsum and fly ash. 

 

Roles and Responsibilities:  

  • To work under the direction of the Principal Investigators.  
  • To coordinate and perform independent tasks such as conducting experiments, analysis, documentation and also interpretation of information/results. 
  • To conduct technical work in laboratory with oversight of senior staff. 
  • To assist in presenting research progress and outcomes to others responsible for the project.    
  • To assist in preparing technical reports with conclusions and recommendations.   
  • To confer with Principal Investigators in terms of restrategising the planned activities (if needed), and when discussing the interpretation of results, preparation of manuscripts for publication of non-commercially sensitive results.  
  • Willing and able to learn new methods and techniques for testing cementitious materials.

  • Possess good organisational skills and effective time management.

Vacancy: Postdoctoral / Research Fellow (1 position) 

 

We are looking for an enthusiastic, highly committed, and motivated scientist/engineer to join the research project “Biodegradable Biopolymers Emulsion as Barrier Film for Laminated Flexible Packaging”. This project, funded by the Council for Research and Advancement in Technology and Science (CREATES), is a collaboration with Polygel Organometallic (Brunei) Sdn Bhd to develop a new generation of biodegradable biopolymers from renewable feedstock. These biopolymers will be used to create environmentally friendly food packaging for both local and global markets.

Roles and Responsibilities 

  • To work under the direction of the Principal Investigator. 
  • To help in conducting research activities, including planning, organising, conducting, and communicating research studies within the overall scope of the research project.  
  • To coordinate and perform independent and team activities involved in experiment, analysis, documentation, and interpretation of information/results. 
  • To undertake tasks that include recording results and preparing technical reports with conclusions and recommendations.  
  • To coordinate the development of forms, questionnaires, and the application of qualitative and quantitative research techniques; write procedures manuals for data collection.  
  • To present information on research progress and outcomes to others responsible for the research project. 
  • To provide guidance as required to any support staff and/or research students assisting with the research project, as agreed with the Principal Investigator. 
  • To confer with the Principal Investigator in developing plans for research projects and to discuss the interpretation of results and the preparation of manuscripts for publication of noncommercially sensitive results. 
  • To perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein. 

 

 

Qualification 

  • PhD in Material Science, Food Packaging, or a relevant Science / Engineering discipline. 
  • Experience with polymers, food packaging, or materials processing is an advantage.

  • The appointee should have knowledge in Minitab, Design Expert and/or a similar statistical software.
