Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB) students, Jaicquailina Vanessa anak Ujai and Abdul Hannan As'ari bin Haji Abdul Khalid As'ari, have achieved an outstanding feat by securing third place in the highly competitive 2024 Guangxi-ASEAN Vocational Skills Competition of Water Quality Testing for University and Vocational College Students.
Hosted by Guangxi Polytechnic of Construction (GXPC), this prestigious competition is a key component of the expansive Clean Water Action: China-ASEAN Youth Envoys Program, aimed at enhancing environmental protection and leadership skills among young people in China and ASEAN countries.
Upon their arrival, Jaicquailina and Abdul Hannan were warmly welcomed by GXPC and representatives of Go Study. A highlight of their visit was a guided tour showcasing Nanning's transformation into a sponge city—an innovative urban planning model designed to mitigate urban flooding, water shortages, and heat island effects through green infrastructure. This model fosters sustainable urban development through smart agriculture and advanced environmental practices.
As part of their enriching experience, the students had the exciting opportunity to participate in the lively 10th ASEAN-China Young Leaders Exchange Festival, where they reunited with two former UTB students now pursuing postgraduate studies in Beijing and Shanghai.
Dr. Sharina Yunus, their lecturer, commended the students, saying, "Despite their busy schedule with final year projects and final year exams, Jaicquailina and Abdul Hannan put in a commendable effort. Their dedication and hard work are truly admirable."
The stellar performance of Jaicquailina and Abdul Hannan is a testament to UTB's unwavering commitment to excellence in education and training. Their success underscores the university's dedication to nurturing young leaders who are well-prepared to tackle global environmental challenges and contribute to sustainable development.
