> UTB Strengthens Performance in THE Impact Rankings 2025

Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB) has once again been recognised in the Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Rankings 2025, affirming its dedication towards sustainability. With a strengthened overall score of 60.9-65.5, UTB maintains its global rank within the 801–1000 band, demonstrating continued progress in its commitment to sustainability, innovation, and inclusive education.

The 2025 results highlight improvements in multiple SDG categories. UTB made significant strides under SDG 4 Quality Education, advancing its rank from 401–600 in 2024 to 301–400 in 2025. This achievement reflects the university’s enhanced efforts in providing accessible, high-quality education, fostering lifelong learning, and supporting student success at all levels.

Another notable improvement is seen in SDG 9 Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure, leading to a rank increase from the 601–800 band to 401–600. This milestone showcases UTB’s growing contribution to research, innovation, and sustainable industrial development, driven by collaborative projects, technology transfer, and entrepreneurship initiatives.

Steady performance was maintained in several other areas. UTB retained its strong standing in SDG 1 No Poverty and a rank of 201–300, demonstrating ongoing engagement with community empowerment and access to resources. Similarly, the university upheld its position in SDG 11 Sustainable Cities and Communities and SDG 17 Partnerships for the Goals, reflecting continued efforts in fostering global partnerships, sustainable urban development, and inclusive community programmes.

UTB’s performance in the 2025 Impact Rankings aligns closely with Wawasan Brunei 2035, which emphasises a dynamic and sustainable economy, high-quality education, and a well-educated, highly skilled population. UTB's achievements also support its strategic direction of becoming a Global University of the Future, by embedding sustainability into its core functions of teaching, research, and engagement.

The THE Impact Rankings are the only global performance tables that assess universities against the SDGs. Institutions are evaluated based on their research, outreach, stewardship, and teaching in relation to each SDG, providing a comprehensive picture of how universities are addressing some of the world’s most pressing challenges.

UTB’s continued presence and progress in these global rankings reflect its growing reputation and its meaningful contributions toward global sustainability goals and national development priorities.
