Universiti Teknologi Brunei participated in the League of Tropical Universities (LTU) Summit 2026 held in Haikou, China from 19-22 May 2026. The summit, themed “Intelligent Connectivity, Shared Future: The Mission and Innovation of Universities in the Digital Era”, brought together higher education institutions from around the world to strengthen collaboration in education, research, innovation, and sustainable development.

Representing UTB at the summit were YM Dr Hajah Ena Kartina binti Hj Abd Rahman, Assistant Vice-Chancellor (Academic Affairs); YM Dr Tan Soon Jiann, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering; and YM Dr Wendy Ng Pei Qin, Director of the UTB Global Office. The delegation actively participated in a series of strategic discussions, networking engagements, and collaborative sessions throughout the summit.

YM Dr Hajah Ena Kartina and YM Dr Tan attended the LTU Council Meeting, where member universities discussed future strategic directions, strengthened institutional cooperation, and explored collaborative initiatives within the League. During the meeting, Dr. Hajah Ena Kartina also delivered remarks highlighting UTB’s perspectives on international collaboration and academic engagement within the global tropical university network.

Throughout the summit, YM Dr Tan engaged with representatives from member universities and participating institutions to explore opportunities for academic collaboration, joint research initiatives, and future international partnerships that would further enhance UTB’s global engagement efforts.

Meanwhile, YM Dr Wendy Ng represented UTB during the LTU Student Program Promotion Session, where she showcased the university’s academic offerings and student mobility opportunities to delegates and partner institutions.

The summit also featured academic and industry matching sessions, providing valuable opportunities for participating universities to establish new partnerships, exchange ideas, and strengthen international networks in research and innovation.

As part of the programme, delegates visited the newly established Mission Hills Campus and attended a seminar on international cooperation. The delegation also toured the Hainan University Science Park, which highlighted the university’s innovation ecosystem and research commercialisation initiatives, including efforts to translate research outcomes into industry and societal applications.

UTB’s participation in the LTU Summit 2026 reflects the university’s continued commitment to advancing internationalisation, fostering meaningful global partnerships, and strengthening collaboration in research, innovation, and student engagement at the international level.
