> UTB SHOWCASES AI-POWERED SAFETY INNOVATION AT WSHCON 2025

Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB) took part in the Workplace Safety & Health Conference 2025 (WSHCON 2025) Exhibition, held from 8 to 10 July 2025 at the International Convention Centre (ICC), Berakas. The event was organised by the Safety, Health and Environment National Authority (SHENA).

In line with this year’s theme, “Revolutionising Health and Safety: The Role of AI and Digitalization at Work,” UTB highlighted an innovative student-led project titled “Smart PPE Compliance Monitoring System using AI and Power Automate.” The project was previously recognised as the winner in the Building Intelligent Machines track at the Robotic Coding Conquest 2024 (RCC 2024).

The system uses AI-powered computer vision to monitor compliance with essential personal protective equipment (PPE), including helmets, vests, and safety boots, in real time. It is also integrated with Microsoft Power Automate to support internal workflows such as sending automated alerts and requesting supervisor approvals.

Visitors to the exhibition also had the chance to engage with UTB’s Tri-CED which promoted the university’s academic offering, particularly the Postgraduate Micro-Credentials Programme. Designed for working professionals and recent graduates, the programme offers flexible and personalised learning options to help individuals upskill or reskill in today’s fast-changing job landscape.
