> UTB LAUNCHES STRATEGIC PROJECT WITH ICESCO TO EMPOWER YOUTH FOR THE DIGITAL ERA

Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB) launched a significant initiative in partnership and sponsored with the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (ICESCO). The three-day workshop, 29 to 31 July 2024, titled “Empowering Youth for the Digital Era: Building Capacity in Low-Code and No-Code Technology to Bridge the ICT Skills Gap,” aims to address the digital skills gap and empower youth participants, particularly focusing on youth and women, to engage in the digital economy regardless of their educational backgrounds.

The event began with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah and Doa Selamat, followed by a welcoming address from Yang Mulia Datin Paduka Professor Dr. Dayang Hajah Zohrah binti Hj Sulaiman, Vice-Chancellor of UTB. She emphasised the workshop's role in nurturing digital creators and supporting Brunei's technological vision.

Yang Mulia Dr. Adel Smeda, an expert in the ICT Science and Technology Sector from ICESCO, too delivered his remarks, highlighted ICESCO’s commitment to bridging the ICT skills gap by offering access to low-code and no-code technologies, aiming to build an inclusive community of innovators and collaborators from diverse backgrounds.

The Guest of Honour, Yang Mulia Dr. Haji Azman bin Ahmad, Permanent Secretary (Higher Education) at the Ministry of Education, delivered his remark, echoing ICESCO's commitment to bridging the ICT skills gap by offering access to technologies, striving to create a diverse welcoming ecosystem of creative thinkers and teamwork-oriented individuals from various walks of life.

The event concluded with an exchange of tokens of appreciation, symbolising the collaborative spirit and mutual commitment to the project's success.

The workshop's curriculum is comprehensive, covering an introduction to Low-Code and No-Code (LCNC) Technology, hands-on experience with the Glide No-Code platform, building simple web applications, natural language processing, LCNC best practices, security considerations, and group projects.

This initiative represents a strategic collaboration between UTB and ICESCO to equip Brunei's youth with essential digital skills, fostering their ability to contribute meaningfully to the digital economy and support the nation's technological advancement.
