The Faculty of Engineering (FEng), Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB), organised a one-day workshop entitled “AI and Data Analytics for Engineering Decision-Making: Applications in Energy, Materials and Manufacturing” on Saturday, 10 October 2026, at Lecture Theatre 4 (LT4), UTB.
The workshop brought together 15 participants, comprising academic staff, researchers and students, who shared a keen interest in exploring the applications of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and data analytics in engineering.
The workshop was facilitated by Yang Mulia Dr Zhwan Dilshad Ibrahim Sktani, Lecturer in the Mechanical Engineering Programme Area, Faculty of Engineering, UTB. Through the workshop, participants gained practical insights into how AI and data analytics could be applied to enhance engineering decision-making, improve operational efficiency and drive innovation across key sectors, including energy systems, advanced materials, manufacturing and sustainability.
Through interactive sessions and applied case studies, participants explored data-driven approaches to predictive maintenance, process optimisation, materials discovery and sustainable energy management. These applications highlighted the potential of AI and data analytics to support more informed decision-making, improve engineering processes and address emerging industrial challenges.
The workshop also provided a platform for knowledge exchange and capacity building, strengthening participants’ understanding of emerging digital technologies and their relevance to contemporary engineering practice.
The initiative reflected UTB’s continued commitment to advancing competencies in the Fourth Industrial Revolution (IR 4.0), fostering innovation and supporting Brunei Darussalam’s aspirations towards a digitally enabled and sustainable economy.
