UTB’s School of Design hosted the inaugural International Conference on Creative Arts Design and Technology (ICCARTE) 2024, held in conjunction with the Konsortium Universiti Universitas Borneo (KUUB) Convention 2024. Centered around the theme "Harmonising Art and Culture through Sustainable, Creative, and Innovative Design", the conference took place at the university’s library complex and marked a significant event in the fields of art, design, and technology.
The conference commenced with a welcoming address by Yang Mulia Professor Dr Yulfian Aminanda, Dean of the School of Design at UTB. Professor Yulfian’s opening remarks highlighted the goals of the conference and set a collaborative tone for the day’s proceedings.
The event featured three distinguished keynote speakers. Yang Mulia Prof. Dr Dzul Haimi Md Zain delivered the first keynote lecture titled “Embracing Art and Culture in Art & Design.” His presentation explored how cultural influences are integrated into contemporary art and design practices, emphasizing the blend of tradition and modernity.
The second keynote lecture was presented by Yang Mulia Ar. Haji Khalid bin Haji Sirat, who spoke on “Programming Architecture.” Ar. Haji Khalid provided an in-depth analysis of how digital technology has transformed architectural design, discussing both advancements and future directions.
Yang Mulia Associate Professor Dr Nor Azwadi bin Che Sidik concluded the keynote lecture series with title: “The Art and Design of Journal Management.” Associate Prof Dr. Nor Azwadi addressed the role of design in improving journal management processes and its impact on scholarly communication.
The conference then proceeded and concluded with parallel sessions with the following conference tracks - Architecture, Industrial / Product Design, Fashion Design and Technology, and Technology in Creative Arts Designs.
The ICCARTE 2024 conference offered a valuable platform for engaging discussions and knowledge exchange among professionals and academics. The event successfully highlighted emerging trends and innovations at the intersection of creative arts, design, and technology.
