UTB EXCELLENCE AWARD CEREMONY 2026

Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB) honoured outstanding achievements across its university community at the UTB Majlis Anugerah Cemerlang 2026, recognising the contributions of academic and non-academic staff, students and graduates in teaching, research, innovation, leadership, professional service and student development.

Held in conjunction with the UTB Convocation Ceremony 2026, the ceremony took place at the Plenary Hall of the International Convention Centre (ICC), Berakas, and highlighted the University’s continued commitment to fostering excellence in teaching, research, innovation, leadership, professional service and student development.

The ceremony was graced by Yang Mulia Dato Seri Paduka Dr Haji Norarfan bin Haji Zainal, Acting Minister of Education, as Guest of Honour.

Also in attendance were His Excellency Chen Shaochun, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People’s Republic of China; Yang Mulia Associate Professor Pengiran Dr Mohamad Iskandar bin Pengiran Haji Petra, Vice-Chancellor of UTB; members of the UTB Council, senior university officials, staff, students, graduates, sponsors and invited guests.

The ceremony commenced with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah and Doa Selamat, followed by welcoming remarks by the UTB Vice-Chancellor.

Recognising Excellence Across the University
The Majlis Anugerah Cemerlang is an annual platform through which UTB recognises individuals and groups who have demonstrated excellence in their respective fields and contributed to the University’s wider development.
The 2026 ceremony featured a wide range of awards, reflecting the diverse ways in which members of the UTB community contributed to the University’s continued pursuit of excellence.

Among the awards presented were the Staff Excellence Award (SEA), Research Excellence Award, Administrative Excellence Award, Chancellor’s Award, Graduate Excellence Award, Publication Award, Student Achievement Passport (SAP) Award, as well as the TechExpo 40 Project Showcase and People’s Choice Award.

The UTB Excellence Award Ceremony 2026 ultimately served as a celebration of the many dimensions of excellence within the University – from academic and research achievement to professional service, innovation, leadership, co-curricular engagement and community contribution – while reaffirming UTB’s commitment to developing graduates who are highly skilled, innovative, responsible and ready to contribute to Brunei Darussalam and beyond.

Staff Excellence Awards 2026
The Guest of Honour presented the Staff Excellence Awards, which recognised exemplary achievements in teaching, research and administration among UTB’s academic and non-academic staff, together with Special Mention recognitions.

A total of 20 outstanding academics and staff members were recognised for their exemplary contributions to the University. Recipients of the main awards received a commemorative plaque, certificate of recognition and a cash prize, while recipients of the Special Mention Awards received certificates in recognition of their contributions.

Research Excellence Awards
For the Research Excellence Award – Early Career Academic category, three academics were recognised:

1. Dr Shaista Wasiuzzaman, Assistant Professor, UTB School of Business;
2. Pengiran Dr Seri Rahayu binti Pengiran Ya'akub, Assistant Professor, Faculty of Engineering;
3. Dr Dayang Mas Munira binti Haji Rambli, Lecturer, School of Applied Sciences and Mathematics.
   
   

In the Mid-Career Academic category, the recipients were

1. Dr Dayang Hajah Wida Susanty binti Haji Suhaili, Senior Assistant Professor, School of Computing and Informatics;
2. Dr Nor Asiah Muhamad, Senior Assistant Professor, Faculty of Engineering.

Associate Professor Dr Awang Lim Tiong Hoo, Faculty of Engineering, was recognised in the Senior Career Academic category.

Administrative Excellence Awards
In the Academic Staff category,

Pengiran Dr Seri Rahayu binti Pengiran Ya'akub, former Deputy Dean (Academic), Faculty of Engineering, received the Administrative Excellence Award.

For the Management and Professional Category (Division I & II), the recipients were

1. Pengiran Raden Tutimuliawati binti Pengiran Haji Mahmud, Counselling Officer, Student Affairs Office;
2. Dayang Siti Nuratika Sri Mu'minnah binti Mohamad Hadi Muslim, Student Welfare Officer, Student Affairs Office.

1. Dayang Hajah Noraidah binti Haji Madin, Assistant Library Officer Level 1, UTB Library;
2. Dayang Suzilawati binti Haji Hanafiah, Assistant Finance Officer, Level II, Bursar’s Office;
3. Dayang Norhaziqah Nabilah binti Haji Misli, Assistant Project Officer, School of Applied Sciences and Mathematics.

For Division IV & V, the recipients were

1. Awang Muhammad Zaiddin bin Abdul Qayyum Sirul, Administrative Assistant, Registrar’s Office;
2. Dayang Hajah Rohana binti Haji Abdul Hamid, Assistant Senior Librarian Tingkat I, UTB Library.

Special Mention Awards
Six staff members were also recognised with Special Mention Awards.

For Teaching Excellence, Special Mentions were awarded to

1. Dr Bashir Suleman Abusahmin, Senior Assistant Professor, Faculty of Engineering;
2. Dr Wendy Ng Pei Qin, Assistant Professor, Faculty of Engineering;
3. Dr Dayang Mas Munira binti Haji Rambli, Lecturer, School of Applied Sciences and Mathematics.

For Research Excellence – Early Career Academic, Special Mentions were awarded to

1. Dr Tan Yie Hua, Lecturer, Faculty of Engineering;
2. Dr Denni Kurniawan, Assistant Professor, Faculty of Engineering.

Pengiran Norhafizah binti Pengiran Haji Muhammad, former Deputy Dean (Student Affairs), received a Special Mention for the Administrative Excellence Award for Academic Staff. Introduced in 2015, the Staff Excellence Award has been presented annually to honour the outstanding contributions of UTB’s academic and non-academic staff and their role in supporting the University’s strategic goals.
