Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB) celebrated academic achievements of the students and professional excellence of academic & non-academic staff with its annual Excellence Award Ceremony 2024. Held in conjunction with UTB Convocation Ceremony 2024, the event took place at the Plenary Hall of the International Convention Centre (ICC), Berakas.
The ceremony recognised outstanding achievements across multiple categories, including the Staff Excellence Award (SEA), the Vice-Chancellor’s Award, the University Student Excellence Award, the Outstanding Research Paper Award, the Publication Award, the Dean’s List Award and the Co-Curricular Activities or Student Achievement Passport (SAP) Award. The event also featured the People’s Choice Award for UTB Project Showcase 2024.
Yang Mulia Dato Seri Paduka Awang Haji Mohamad Azmi bin Hj Mohd Hanifah, the Deputy Minister of Energy at the Prime Minister’s Office and UTB Council Member graced the occasion as the Guest of Honour.
The ceremony was further distinguished by the presence of UTB Vice- Chancellor, Yang Mulia Datin Paduka Professor Dr Dayang Hajah Zohrah binti Haji Sulaiman; Mr. Wang Haitao, Acting Ambassador of the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Brunei Darussalam; and other esteemed members of the UTB Council. other esteemed members of the UTB Council.
The event commenced with the recitation of the Surah Al-Fatihah and Doa Selamat, followed by a welcoming address delivered by the UTB Vice-Chancellor, officially marking the start of the award ceremony.
At the ceremony, the Guest of Honour presented awards to the recipients of the Staff Excellence Awards (SEA), recognising achievements in teaching, research and administrative excellence for both academic and non-academic staff, as well as a Special Mention Award.
A total of seventeen exceptional academics and staff members were awarded for their exemplary service to the University this year. The main award recipients each received a commemorative plaque, a certificate of recognition, and a cash prize of BND$1,000.00, while those granted the Special Mention Award were presented with certificates acknowledging their contributions.

Following the Staff Excellence Awards, the ceremony proceeded with the Guest of Honour presenting the Graduate Excellence Awards. These accolades were conferred upon a select group of exceptional graduates who had not only successfully completed their studies but had also demonstrated outstanding performance in their respective academic programs. The awards, spanning various categories, served to recognise and celebrate the academic achievements and dedication of these accomplished individuals as they concluded their educational journey at UTB.

The Dean's List Awards were presented to approximately 60 deserving students from across UTB's faculties and schools. These recipients were recognised for their exceptional academic performance, having demonstrated remarkable scholastic achievement throughout their studies. This prestigious honour acknowledges the hard work, dedication, and intellectual prowess of these high-achieving students across various disciplines within the university.
In addition, eight students were acknowledged for their exceptional involvement in co-curricular activities, with awards spanning diverse areas such as Outstanding Life Skill Achiever, Top Religious Award (Male), Community Service Achiever, Top Culture Award, Sportsman and Sportswoman of UTB, and a Special Mention category.
The event also celebrated innovation, with ten recipients earning the People's Choice Award for their contributions to the UTB Project Showcase 2024. This comprehensive recognition underscores UTB's commitment to fostering well-rounded excellence among its student body.
