> UTB CELEBRATES AWARD OF SCHOLARS SCHEME TO DAYANG HAJAH WAFIQAH

Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB) held a significant signing ceremony today at the Pearl Building, to formally recognise Dayang Hajah Wafiqah binti Haji Daim as the recipient of UTB's esteemed Scholars Scheme. This event not only highlights the university's commitment to academic excellence but also aligns with the broader national vision of Brunei Darussalam.

Present as the Guest of Honour was Yang Mulia Datin Paduka Professor Dr Dayang Hajah Zohrah binti Hj Sulaiman, Vice-Chancellor of UTB.

Also in attendance were UTB Principal Officers, staff, and invited guests.

The event commenced with a recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah and Doa Kesyukuran followed by a welcoming speech delivered by Yang Mulia Awang Lim Chui Hua, Registrar and Secretary of UTB.

The event then proceeded with the signing of an official agreement between Dayang Wafiqah binti Hj Daim, witnessed by her spouse Abdul Faizul Azim bin Faudillah, and Yang Mulia Dr. Sharul Tazrajiman bin Hj Tajuddin, Acting Assistant Vice-Chancellor (Academic Affairs), witnessed by Yang Mulia Awang Lim Chui Hua, Registrar and Secretary of UTB. 

Dayang Hajah Wafiqah has been awarded the opportunity to pursue a Doctorate in Nutrition and Food Sciences at the University of Queensland, Australia, for a four-year period. Upon completing her PhD she will return to UTB as a Lecturer in the School of Applied Sciences and Mathematics.

Motivated by a deep passion for learning and a commitment to making a positive impact in the field of food science, Dayang Hajah Wafiqah sees this opportunity as a pathway to inspire and educate future generations. She envisions her role as a lecturer to involve delivering engaging lectures, developing diverse educational opportunities, and establishing valuable partnerships with universities and industries. Over the next decade, she aspires to lead impactful research projects that address global challenges in the food industry, contribute to a sustainable future, and support the growth and success of UTB.

Dayang Hajah Wafiqah also offers this advice to aspiring individuals: “Stay true to your passion and remember why you started your journey. Focus on your goals, embrace challenges, and view setbacks as learning experiences. Always remember that ‘with every hardship comes ease,’ as stated in Surah Al-Insyirah, verses 5-6 of the Quran.”

The UTB’s Scholars Scheme is a prestigious program designed to identify and support exceptional local talent for advanced academic study and research. It offers scholarships for higher education, including tuition, living expenses, and additional support. Recipients, selected based on merit, are expected to complete their studies abroad and return to contribute as academic leaders at UTB, aligning with Brunei Darussalam's Vision 2035 for a highly educated and skilled population. This prestigious scheme seeks to empower and support students who are not only academically accomplished but also driven by a passion for driving positive change and making a significant impact on society.
