> UTB@40 AT THE HIGHER EDUCATION EXPO: SHAPING FUTURE TALENT FOR THE NATION

As Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB) celebrates its 40th Anniversary, the University presents itself at the Higher Education Expo as a national institution that has grown alongside Brunei Darussalam — shaping talent, advancing innovation, and preparing future-ready graduates for the nation and beyond.

For four decades, UTB has played a central role in developing skilled professionals, industry-ready graduates and research-driven solutions aligned with Wawasan Brunei 2035. Today, UTB@40 reflects both a proud legacy and a forward-looking commitment to educating the next generation in a rapidly evolving world.

Future-Ready Education with Real-World Impact

Guided by UTB’s Strategic Plan 2024–2028, students are equipped not only with strong academic foundations, but also with practical skills, adaptability and digital competencies essential for future careers.

Through initiatives such as UTB ExperiencePLUS, students gain exposure to internships, industry-linked projects and hands-on learning experiences that bridge classroom knowledge with real-world application. This ensures UTB graduates are confident, resilient and ready to contribute meaningfully upon graduation.

“At UTB, we nurture students to become adaptable learners and responsible contributors to society — not just job seekers, but future nation builders,” said Pengiran Dr Mohd Iskandar Pg Haji Petra, Acting Deputy Vice-Chancellor of UTB.

Trusted Quality Through Strong Governance

Parents and students can be assured that UTB’s academic offerings are supported by strong governance, transparency and quality assurance. Academic programmes are guided by structured regulations, Senate oversight and University Council endorsement, ensuring consistency, fairness and credibility.

“A strong university is built on trust and integrity. At UTB, sound governance ensures that every qualification earned is respected and future-proof,” said Mr Lim Chui Hua, Registrar and Secretary of UTB.

Regular programme reviews and alignment with national and international standards ensure UTB degrees remain relevant and recognised.

Flexible Pathways and Lifelong Learning Opportunities

Recognising that students learn in different ways and at different stages of life, UTB offers flexible entry routes and lifelong learning pathways through the Centre for Continuing Education in Science, Engineering and Technology (Tri-CED).

From alternative entry programmes to short courses, micro-credentials and executive development, Tri-CED enables learners to upskill, reskill and progress towards formal qualifications without disrupting work or personal commitments.

“Learning does not stop at one stage of life. Flexible pathways allow individuals to grow with changing industry and national needs,” said Hajah Eddyilahwati Haji Suhaili, Director of Tri-CED.

Alternative Entry Pathways: Opening Doors to Opportunity

UTB’s commitment to inclusive access is demonstrated through programmes such as the UTB-Satellite Partners Bridging Programme in Communication (Bri-iComm), designed for students who may not meet direct entry requirements.

The programme strengthens academic readiness, communication skills and confidence, supporting a smoother transition into undergraduate studies.

“Potential should be developed, not limited by a single entry point. Bridging programmes allow students to progress with confidence and purpose,” said Dr Nena Padilla Valdez, Dean of the Centre for Communication, Teaching and Learning (CCTL).

Research Excellence that Enriches Learning

UTB students benefit from a research-active learning environment that connects education with innovation and sustainability. This is reflected in the recognition of Dr Tan Yie Hua from the Faculty of Engineering as a World Top 2% Scientist 2025.

Her work in biomass utilisation, biofuel technologies and sustainable engineering solutions highlights UTB’s contribution to national and global priorities, while enriching teaching and student learning through research-led education.

UTB@40: Your Pathway to the Future

At the Higher Education Expo, UTB@40 invites students, parents and educators to explore a university that combines heritage, innovation and purpose.

Whether entering university for the first time, exploring alternative pathways, or planning lifelong learning, UTB offers clear pathways to success, grounded in national values and global relevance.
