> ROYAL THAI EMBASSY DONATES BOOKS TO UTB AND LAUNCHES ‘THAI CORNER’

In celebration of 40 years of diplomatic relations between Brunei Darussalam and Thailand, the Royal Thai Embassy donated a valuable collection of books to Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB) in a ceremony held this afternoon at the UTB Library, Library Complex, Phase 3, UTB.

The event commenced with a recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah and Doa Selamat followed by welcoming remarks by Yang Mulia Datin Paduka Professor Dr Dayang Hajah Zohrah binti Haji Sulaiman, UTB Vice-Chancellor and a speech from Her Excellency Miss Boosara Kanchanalai, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Royal Thai Embassy in Brunei Darussalam.

The event proceeded with the launch of the ‘Thai Corner’ located within the UTB library. The ‘Thai Corner’ features a collection of 25 books donated by the Embassy of Royal Thai Embassy covering a wide range of topics including culture, history, travel, architecture and in relations to sustainable development. These books intended to enrich UTB’s academic resources and serve as a valuable resource for both students and staff, deepening their understanding of Thailand’s heritage and its global contributions, while fostering mutual cultural appreciation between the two nations.

This donation reflects the strong bilateral relationship between Brunei Darussalam and Thailand, which have seen numerous milestones over the past four decades. Earlier this year, on 23 April 2024, UTB signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Chulalongkorn University to further enhance academic collaboration, with a focus on student and staff exchanges, joint research projects, and academic initiatives. This MoU is another testament to the growing partnership in education between the two nations.

The establishment of the ‘Thai Corner’ is not just a symbol of the long-standing friendship between Brunei and Thailand, but also a tangible contribution to UTB’s ongoing efforts to enrich its academic resources and promote cross-cultural engagement. It serves as a platform for intellectual growth, providing students and scholars with opportunities to explore Thailand’s cultural, historical, and sustainable development perspectives.

This collaboration goes beyond intellectual engagement and strengthens the foundations for a long-term partnership between the two countries, nurturing mutual understanding and academic growth for future generations.
