The Konsortium Universiti Universitas Borneo (KUUB) Convention 2024 was officially inaugurated today at an opening ceremony that brought together academic leaders, scholars, and researchers from across Borneo. Organised by Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB) and co-organised by the KUUB, the launch took place at the Auditorium of Balai Khazanah Islam Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah. The event will run for three consecutive days from 20 until 22 August 2024.
The KUUB Convention is a cornerstone event for the consortium, comprising 17 member universities and higher education institutions across Borneo. The convention aims to foster academic collaboration, share research insights, and explore solutions to regional challenges. The convention’s theme this year is ‘Budaya dan Seni’ (Culture and Arts).
The ceremony began with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah and a Doa Selamat, followed by a welcoming speech from Yang Mulia Datin Paduka Professor Dr Dayang Hajah Zohrah binti Haji Sulaiman, Vice-Chancellor of UTB, as the Chairperson of the KUUB 2024 steering committee.
Yang Berhormat Dayang Hajah Rosmawatty binti Haji Abdul Mumin, Member of the Legislative Council as the Guest of Honour, then delivered her remarks and officially opened the convention.
Following this, UTB and Swinburne University of Technology, Sarawak Campus, Malaysia, formalised their partnership through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed. This MoU aims to enhance collaboration and support mutual growth between the two institutions.
The event proceeded with the first keynote address delivered by Yang Mulia Professor Dr Shahrul Razid Sarbini, President of KUUB, on AgriHub@Gedong: Sustainable Agriculture for Food Security.
The event concluded with visiting the KUUB Convention Exhibition, showcasing academic achievements, research projects, and cultural exhibits from participating universities.
The KUUB is a collective of universities and higher education institutions dedicated to promoting academic collaboration, research innovation, and sustainable development across Borneo. The annual KUUB Convention is a key event that brings together the brightest minds to explore solutions for the region’s most pressing challenges.
