32 students of the Electrical and Electronics Engineering and 43 students from Mechanical Engineering Programme Areas of Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB) attended the Inspection Awareness and Practical Demonstration of Oil and Gas Fixed Equipment workshop held at the Mechanical Lab of the university from 8 to 9 March 2023. The workshop was conducted by the Germanischer Lloyd Offshore and Industrial Services (B) Sendirian Berhad (trading as DNV).
The event aims to provide awareness and introduce the students to the importance of Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) and how it contributes to overall safety across various disciplines. The event marked a significant milestone for collaboration between Germanischer Lloyd Offshore and Industrial Services (B) Sdn Bhd (Trading as DNV) and UTB.
Students were shown various types of non-destructive testing (NDT) such as dye penetrant testing, ultrasonic testing, radiography testing, eddy current testing, magnetic particle testing, and visual testing. Furthermore, the event featured Electrical & Instrumentation setup, Cathodic Protection, Coating Condition Survey, and Mechanical Quality Control.
This collaboration bridges the gap between the university's curriculum and industrial needs, improves students' employability skills, and enables the sharing of academic knowledge and research initiatives that mutually benefit the university and industries. With collaborations and supports from the industries, the University is capable to produce holistic engineering graduates for the country in accordance with Wawasan 2035's needs and expectations.
