> MENTAL HEALTH TALK FROM ISLAMIC PERSPECTIVE

In conjunction with Mental Health Day 2021, the Counselling Unit of the Student Affairs Office hosted a virtual motivational talk for UTB staff and students about mental health from an Islamic perspective.

The talk entitled ‘Mental Health - an Islamic Perspective: How to Support Your Mental Health’ was delivered by guest speaker, Ustaz Awang Muhammad Yussof bin Hj Abdul Majid. He discussed the importance of mental health and how faith can be a source of motivation for a person to address their mental health challenges.

In the talk, Ustaz Awang Muhammad Yussof advised not to underestimate the role of religion and spirituality in mental health, nor blaming mental illnesses on the lack of faith and religiosity of an individual. Common misconceptions about mental health in general and ways to help people who are going through mental health problems were also shared.
