> FOOD & SCIENCE TECHNOLOGY STUDENTS AWARDED PLATINUM FOR BEST POSTER

1 December 2021 – A group of four students from the School of Applied Sciences & Mathematics (SASM) was awarded Platinum in the Best Poster category at the 5th International Seminar on Halalan Thayyiban Products and Services (SAPPHAT).

The event was organised by Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali (UNISSA) through the Halalan Thayyiban Research Centre. Four keynote addresses and twenty-two poster presenters were featured at the one-day seminar in conjunction with the Brunei December Festival 2021.

Witnessed by Dr Haji Norarfan bin Haji Zainal, Rector of UNISSA, three best presenters and three best posters in the platinum, gold, and silver categories were announced at the seminar.

The Platinum award went to the students from Food & Science Technology programme area; Siti Madihah Mohd Don, Nurnajihah Abd Samad, Mohammad Isam Ariffin Sari, and Nurshairah Samrah. The team was supervised by SASM lecturers, Professor Dr. Beston F. Nore and Dr. Mas Munira Rambli.

Entitled Developing Halal Beverages from Fermented Lemongrass, the content of the team's poster focused on developing a halal fermented beverage using readily-available lemongrass as the main raw material. It aims to observe and determine the physiochemical analysis of the formulated lemongrass in terms of the pH value, sugar content and level of alcohol production.

Over 200 local and overseas participants joined the event carrying the theme Halal Industry Amidst COVID-19 Pandemic. The implementation of 5th SAPPHAT in 2021 is expected to be a catalyst for all halal industry practitioners and operators, particularly in the country, to continue to strive and show resilience in improving the quality and quantity of Halalan Thayyiban products and services, which will strengthen the economy.
