PROFESSOR IR DR MOKHTAR AWANG

Professor Ir Dr Faculty of Engineering

Current Teaching Module

  • Mechanics of Materials - EM2103
  • Maintenance Engineering - EM3304

Specialized Area

My research focuses on friction stir welding (FSW), particularly refill friction stir spot welding (RFSSW), for advanced materials joining applications. Computational modelling and simulation techniques, including the finite element method (FEM) and smoothed particle hydrodynamics (SPH), are employed to investigate material flow, heat transfer, and thermomechanical behaviour during the welding process. This research aims to enhance the understanding of welding mechanisms, optimise process parameters, and improve joint quality, mechanical performance, and process reliability.
