> QUALITY GRADUATES AND OPPORTUNITIES IN LEARNING

Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB) is committed to ensuring that its programmes achieve and uphold international accreditation, thereby establishing high-quality standards within higher education. Currently, 24 programmes within the university have earned international accreditation, with plans for additional programmes to undergo the same rigorous evaluation process as deemed applicable. It is essential to recognise that the accreditation process is both comprehensive and demanding. It involves ongoing evaluation and enhancement, including a thorough review of the curriculum to ensure its relevance, an assessment of the student experience to guarantee adequate exposure, thereby enabling students to meet the academic requirements essential for entering their respective fields, and most importantly, the evaluation of resources to ensure that sufficient support is provided to sustain these programmes effectively. With programme accreditation as a central focus of the university, employers can confidently trust in the academic quality of our graduates.

To safeguard accreditation and maintain academic standards, the university has established rigorous academic regulations and quality assurance measures. As part of this process, external assessors from leading international universities are also invited to evaluate students’ performance, the curriculum and assessment methods across all programmes. Furthermore, industry stakeholders actively contribute to the development of the curriculum, providing invaluable insight into the quality and relevance of academic programmes to meet current and future industry needs.

UTB also welcomes collaboration in teaching and learning, fostering partnerships with both academic institutions and industry organisations on local and international scales. Through our partnerships, we promote diverse learning experiences to cultivate graduates with a global and forward-looking perspective, if it aligns with our learning outcomes and academic expectations.

One of the core practices at UTB is to equip our students with the ability to solve real-world and non-routine problems effectively. This is predominantly achieved during the senior years through the execution of design, research, and capstone projects. These projects, often inspired by real-world challenges from industry, serve as a platform for students to engage deeply with practical problems. Students apply theoretical knowledge to real-world scenarios and develop essential skills such as critical thinking, problem-solving, and collaborative work. Moreover, this experiential learning approach fosters innovation and prepares students to address the complex challenges they will encounter in their future professional endeavours.

UTB offers the UTB ExperiencePLUS programme, providing students with valuable internship opportunities both locally and abroad. These internships are designed to enhance employability by offering hands-on experience in real-world work environments. Through partnerships with industry leaders, students gain practical insights, build professional networks, and apply their academic knowledge in dynamic settings, ensuring they are well-prepared for the global workforce and the challenges of their future careers.

UTB enthusiastically encourages our graduates to maintain an ongoing connection with the university by periodically visiting campus and actively supporting its activities, including facilitating industrial talks, whether on-site or off-site. Furthermore, we encourage our graduates to consider our university as their primary destination for further academic pursuits or the enhancement of their professional qualifications. Acknowledging the dynamic nature of current job markets, the university recognises the significance of fostering lifelong learning among working professionals. To this end, the office of Continuing Education in Science, Engineering, and Technology (Tri-CEd) has diligently coordinated various programmes aimed at upskilling and reskilling individuals. These offerings range from intensive, non-credit-bearing short courses to tailor-made programmes designed to meet the specific needs of both private and public sectors. Additionally, part-time programmes cater to individuals whose commitments prevent full-time enrolment, while credit-bearing micro-credentials allow students to personalise their learning experience according to their scheduling preferences and module choices. Students also have the option of pursuing either modular-based certifications or full academic qualifications, thereby accommodating a variety of educational aspirations.

"Our vision for continuing education at UTB embraces flexibility and relevance. Through Tri-CEd, we offer diverse learning pathways that accommodate working professionals' schedules while meeting industry demands. Whether through short courses, micro-credentials, or part-time programs, we're committed to supporting our graduates' lifelong learning journey," said Dayang Hajah Siti Eddyilahwati binti Haji Suhaili, Director of Tri-CEd.

We aspire for UTB to become the partner of choice, renowned for its commitment to quality lifelong learning, spanning from higher education to professional development and beyond, supporting the advancement of society, the workforce, and lifelong learners in the country.
