> OPENING CEREMONY FOR SEEDS FOR THE FUTURE 2021

4 December 2021 - Seeds for the Future 2021 was officiated by Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Hamzah bin Haji Sulaiman, Minister of Education as the Guest of Honour at the virtual opening ceremony.

The opening ceremony was hosted by Huawei Technologies (B) Sdn Bhd and co-hosted by Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB).

Also in attendance were Yang Mulia Datin Seri Paduka Dr. Hajah Romaizah binti Haji Mohammad Salleh, Deputy Minister of Education; Her Excellency Yu Hong, Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China in Brunei Darussalam, government senior officials, company CEOs, teachers and students of the participating institutions.

The event began with welcoming remarks by Yang Mulia Mr Zhang Jian Wei, Chief Executive Officer of Huawei Technologies (B) Sdn Bhd followed by remarks from the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China; and the Minister of Education.

Seeds for the Future is Huawei’s flagship Corporate Social Responsibility Programme. For more than ten years, Huawei aimed to develop local talent, enhance knowledge transfer, promote a greater understanding and interest in the ICT sector, and encourage participation in the digital community.

In 2015, Seeds for the Future was launched in Brunei. It was first started with six students from Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) and UTB. To date about 70 students have participated from UBD, UTB, and other education institutes participated in the program from the beginning.

This year, Huawei is delighted to welcome 42 more students from different majors and institutions including UTB, UBD, Politeknik Brunei, Institute of Brunei Technical Education and Micronet International College to participate.

Huawei’s Headquarters (HQ) team is continuously refining the course quality by focusing on industry-leading technologies and offering students the chance to work in a global environment and participate in numerous cultural exchanges. This year’s Huawei’s HQ has added new topic in the programme such as :China live-streaming culture, Exploring China social media, Huawei leadership approach, Uber model across Asian markets, “Tech4Good” Group Work - Multi-cultural learning environment, Creativity and Innovation, Interactive and dynamic classroom, Huawei exhibition hall live visit, Live Chinese cultural sightseeing, Tailored pre-recorded visit and live Q&A with fast-growing companies.

During the eight day programme, it is hoped that the students will enjoy the seeds journey and gain more experience on culture as well in the ICT field and ready for the future career hunt.
