In the construction industry, the code of ethics plays an important role in enhancing professionalism among professionals to improve quality in construction. This was highlighted in the Lecture Series on Future Changers: Professional Ethics & Construction Industry Best Practice.
The lecture series was hosted through an online platform by the university’s Faculty of Engineering (FEng) in collaboration with the Pertubuhan Ukur, Jurutera dan Arkitek (PUJA) Brunei and Eco Bumi Arkitek.
More than 100 construction enthusiasts attended the series led by Yang Berhormat FDr Ar Siti Rozaimeriyanty binti Dato Seri Laila Jasa Haji Abdul Rahman, Legislative Council member cum Director of Eco Bumi Arkitek and Immediate Past President of PUJA.
The attendees were briefed about the importance of maintaining professional ethics throughout implementing projects to set the relationships between parties to prevent construction projects from suffering.
At the lecture series, the project managers from Eco Bumi Arkitek presented two project case studies as examples related to professional ethics including the proposed development of the Abode, Eco Resort Temburong, and Projek Menaiktaraf Galeri Seni, Bandar Seri Begawan. Issues and challenges faced from the case study were also shared such as site condition, third party coordination, COVID-19 impact, heritage site limitations and meeting stakeholder’s objective.
The series then concluded with some key points shared by Eco Bumi Arkitek’s junior designer, on how university studies can be applied to career practice and how to prepare to meet the industry expectation.
