Mr. Rob Van Velden, the Director of Finance at Brunei Shell Petroleum (BSP) delivered a lecture on career experience and development to UTB students, graduates, and alumni this morning, drawing on his own experiences. This was organised by the Career and Guidance Unit of the Student Affairs Office, UTB in collaboration with ExCo Entrepreneurship and Economy, held at the Lecture Theatre 2, Library complex of the university.
The lecture was moderated by Dr Shaista Wasiuzzaman, Assistant Professor of UTB School of Business.
During the lecture, Mr. Rob Van Velden expressed his views on the privilege of being able to pursue studies up to the university level. He highlighted the importance of recognising and appreciating this opportunity. Furthermore, he shared career advice from Jack Ma, providing valuable insights on navigating professional journeys and achieving success.
He then shared his personal experiences in career development, placing great emphasis on the significance of self-awareness regarding core strengths and passions. He stressed the importance of making informed decisions when it comes to work placement, considering factors like marketability and flexibility. Drawing from his journey, Mr. Rob also shared valuable advice offering guidance to the audience on how to navigate their own career paths successfully.
The lecture concluded with an interactive question-and-answer session, creating a platform for the students to actively engage and further enhance their understanding of career pursuits. Through this session the students were able to delve deeper into the subject matter and receive practical advice and guidance tailored to their specific concerns and aspirations.
