A team of the Crown Prince CIPTA Award 2025 Competition (Malay Translation: Jerayawara Pertandingan Anugerah CIPTA Duli Pengiran Muda Mahkota 2025) Working Committee continued conducting a roadshow today at Pusat Tingkatan Enam Belait. CIPTA 2025 marked the 20th anniversary of the biennial competition organised by UTB in partnership with Brunei LNG Sendirian Berhad (Brunei LNG), as the main sponsor. The roadshow aimed to raise public awareness of the CIPTA 2025 competition and stimulate the public’s and student’s interest in participating.
The roadshow was attended by students, representatives from relevant industries and the public from the Belait district.
The roadshow commenced with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah and was followed by a CIPTA 2025 multimedia presentation. The Technical Committee of CIPTA 2025, Dr Nor Asiah Muhammad and Muhammad Khaliq Syafie bin Md Don presented on the importance of nurturing creativity and innovation and their relevance to the CIPTA competition. Next, the categories, rules and regulations, prizes and awards, important dates, the judging process, and examples of projects submitted in previous CIPTA competitions were presented.
Dr Sharina binti Yunus gave a presentation about the CIPTA 2025 Bootcamp. He elaborated on the structure and objectives of the bootcamp, emphasizing the hands-on training and mentorship that participants would receive. He also highlighted various workshops that would be essential for the participants, such as idea generation, project planning, and prototype development.
There was also an open forum at the end of the presentations where the attendees’ asked questions and received clarifications on the competition.
With the theme 'Green Innovations, the Crown Prince CIPTA Award Competition has three main categories namely: ‘Local Categories’, ‘Smart Junior Competition’ and ‘ASEAN Categories’.
The Local Categories comprised three categories: ‘Category 1: Creating New Product, Process or Technology’; ‘Category 2: Modifying Existing Product, Process or Technology’; and ‘Category 3: Creating New or Modifying Existing Product, Process or Technology by Young Inventors’.
The Smart Junior Competition is open to Bruneian students from lower secondary school or equivalent to Year 7 to Year 9.
The ASEAN Categories are comprised two categories: ‘New Invention & Innovation Category’ and the ‘Young Inventor Category’.
Each entry will be judged based on its novelty and creativity, relevance to the theme, end product deployment at par with the specified technological readiness level (TRL), and social, economic and sustainable design considerations. Assessment of submitted projects will be conducted in two stages, starting with the Preliminary Assessment. Only qualified entries will be allowed to proceed to the Final Assessment. The assessment will be evaluated based on the report, presentation and demonstration of the products.
The top three highest-scoring entries, for each category, will be awarded cash prizes for best invention. Additionally, the entries achieving the fourth and fifth highest marks will receive special mention recognition.

New Additions for CIPTA 2025
Medals for Gold, Silver, and Bronze Awards: For the first time, participating inventions will be eligible for gold, silver, and bronze medal awards. These medals will honour the top-scoring and most innovative products.
Special Award for Sustainable Energy:
This award recognises innovations in energy production focusing on sustainability and will be given to the highest-scoring projects in sustainable energy within each category:
• Local Categories 1 and 2, and ASEAN – New Invention & Innovation Category: B$1500 and a certificate.
• Local Category 3, and ASEAN – Young Inventor Category: B$1000 and a certificate.
The Special Award for Sustainable Energy, newly introduced for CIPTA 2025, aims to acknowledge and encourage advancements in sustainable energy technology. This initiative focuses on the commitment to fostering sustainable energy innovations in Brunei Darussalam and the ASEAN region.
The competition encompasses all areas of Science, Technology and Engineering. It is open to all schools, technical and tertiary academic institutions, government and private organisations and the general public.
