The acronym CIPTA stands for Creative, Innovative Product and Technological Advancement, and it is also a Malay word meaning to create or to invent that aims to encourage and to develop the culture for creation, invention and innovation in Brunei Darussalam and other ASEAN countries.
The CIPTA 2023 competition, themed 'Innovations for Sustainable Development Goals’, was developed in response to the 2030 agenda on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The 2030 Agenda of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), as adopted by United Nations Member States in September 2015, sets the blueprint of a global response to normalise the global issues by eradicating poverty, combating inequality and protecting the planet through the tackling of climate change.
CIPTA 2023 Competition invites visionary innovators within Brunei Darussalam and other ASEAN countries to invent and innovate products that revolves around the 17 elements of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), to provide integrated solutions to respond to the challenges the world is facing and to ensure inclusiveness among the global society.
The theme is very much in-line with His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’ízzaddin Waddaulah Ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Saádul Khari Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Negara Brunei Darussalam’s Titah for the country to continuously aspires to be widely recognized for its educated, highly skilled and accomplished people, with a high quality of life and a dynamic and sustainable economy by 2035, while preserving its unique social, cultural and traditional values. His Majesty underlined that for the country to achieve the goals and targets of SDGs, it would require unified action and cooperation from national, regional and international bodies.
